The costume can be temporary. The coat shouldn’t be.
Start in the wardrobe. A favourite dark outfit, a familiar layer and one removable detail can be enough. The aim is a child who feels dressed up without a whole new outfit for one evening.

Decide where the evening happens.
An indoor party and an outdoor walk need different clothes. Check the forecast, the invitation and what your child will actually be happy wearing. Keep everyday shoes and a warm layer in the plan.
Spend on the part they will wear again.
A cardigan, a skirt or a shirt may have a life beyond 31 October. Start with existing clothes, then use these edits to compare materials, care instructions and sizes before buying anything.
