Setting up a nursery is one of those decisions that looks simple on paper and turns out to be anything but. There are hundreds of products competing for your attention, and your budget. We’ve cut through the noise to focus on the pieces that genuinely earn their keep: the pram that holds its resale value, the monitor that actually shows you what you need to see, and the feeding chair your back will thank you for five years from now.
How we chose
Every product on this list has been assessed on three criteria: build quality, longevity (will it last beyond one child?), and value retention. We are not interested in products that look good in an Instagram nursery and fall apart by month three.
The pram: UPPAbaby Vista V2

UPPAbaby Vista V2
The pram that holds its value. Converts from carrycot to toddler seat; add a second seat for twins or siblings without buying a new chassis.
Check Price on AmazonThe Vista V2 has been the benchmark for premium prams since 2019. The all-wheel suspension handles London pavements and park trails equally well. The carrycot is JPMA-certified for overnight sleeping, which matters if you want flexibility in those early weeks. Resale is strong: well-kept Vista V2s hold 50 to 60% of their retail value after three years.
The feeding chair: Stokke Tripp Trapp with Newborn Set
We covered the Tripp Trapp in depth in our full review, the short version is: the Newborn Set attachment (£89 separately) turns it into a proper feeding position from birth, and the same chair carries your child through primary school. It is the only high chair worth buying if you can afford it.
The monitor: Motorola VM75
Motorola
Motorola VM75 Video Baby Monitor
5-inch colour screen, 1000ft range, two-way audio, lullabies, temperature alert. No subscription, no app required, just works.
Check Price on AmazonThe case for a dedicated monitor over a phone app: no Wi-Fi dependency, no subscription, no latency, and the battery lasts 10 hours in eco mode. The VM75 has a 5-inch screen large enough to actually see something. The temperature sensor is genuinely useful, not a gimmick.
The change mat: Leander Matty
An overlooked detail: a quality change mat is used 6 to 10 times a day for two years. The Leander Matty has a raised edge to prevent roll-off and uses certified leather-free PVC, it wipes clean without cracking or discolouring. Danish design, naturally.
What to skip
Wipe warmers. You don’t need them. Nappy bins. A normal bin with a lid works identically. Novelty nightlights. A plug-in dimmer on a salt lamp does the same job for a fifth of the price. The nursery industry sells anxiety back to new parents, be selective.
