If UK outlet villages are good, the best European equivalents are genuinely extraordinary. La Vallée Village near Paris, Fidenza Village in Emilia-Romagna, and Castel Romano Designer Outlet near Rome collectively carry children’s fashion that would cost you three times as much in the boutiques a few miles away. These are not discount stores. They are curated shopping environments with serious brand depth.
We have visited all three as part of family trips and with dedicated shopping in mind. Here is what the children’s fashion circuit actually looks like.
La Vallée Village, Marne-la-Vallée (near Paris)
La Vallée Village sits 40 minutes east of Paris by RER and is the most French-focused outlet circuit in Europe. For children’s fashion, it is essentially unmatched. Bonpoint, Jacadi, Petit Bateau, Bonton, and DPAM are all present with discounts running from 30% on current season to 60%+ on end-of-line stock.
The Bonpoint boutique here is the one that converted us. Smocked cotton dresses, silk-trimmed cardigans, and occasion separates appear at prices that the King’s Road store would not recognise. If you are buying for a christening, a wedding, or simply want the kind of childrenswear your mother would recognise as special, this is the most efficient way to access it.
Jacadi here is particularly strong on back-to-school basics, structured cotton shirts, navy knitwear, and quality school bags at 40 to 50% off. If you have children in French school uniform aesthetic, an afternoon in Jacadi will restock the wardrobe for a fraction of high-street prices.
Getting there: RER A to Val d’Europe. Twenty minutes from Disneyland Paris if you are combining trips. Free shuttle from the station on weekends.
Best time to go: January or July sale periods, when outlet prices sit on top of already-reduced end-of-season stock. A Wednesday in October is calmer than a Saturday in August, but the village is well-designed enough to handle crowds.
Fidenza Village, Emilia-Romagna (near Parma)
Fidenza Village is The Bicester Collection’s Italian outpost, 100km south of Milan by road. The children’s fashion circuit here reflects Italy’s position as the manufacturing home of serious luxury: Gucci Kids, Burberry Children, Moncler Enfant, and Moschino Kids are among the names regularly stocked.
Gucci Kids at Fidenza is worth particular attention. Tracksuits, trainers, and accessories routinely appear at 30 to 50% below the mainline boutique price. If you want the label without the full RRP, and you are anywhere near Parma, the maths work in your favour.
Moncler Enfant is the other standout. The quilted jackets that retail at £300 to 500 appear at Fidenza from £180 to 250. These are investment pieces, they last, they hold their look, and they photograph beautifully. Two seasons of use and the outlet price makes complete sense.
Getting there: Direct train from Milano Centrale to Fidenza (55 min), then a free shuttle to the village. Alternatively, it sits just off the A1 motorway if you are driving through Italy.
Castel Romano Designer Outlet, near Rome
Castel Romano is 25km south of Rome centre and carries a different character to Fidenza, broader, less curated, but with genuine finds for children in the right brands. Burberry Kids, Ralph Lauren Children, and Armani Junior are the consistent performers. Stock depth varies more here than at Fidenza or La Vallée, so specific intentions are harder to fulfil, but browsing rewards patience.
If you are in Rome for more than three or four days, a half-day at Castel Romano is a reasonable addition to the itinerary, particularly for outerwear and occasion pieces.
Tips for European Outlet Shopping with Children
- European sizing runs small. French and Italian children’s sizing in particular tends to run a size or more smaller than UK equivalent. Always measure before you travel and carry those measurements with you.
- VAT refund applies for non-EU visitors. Post-Brexit, UK visitors are eligible for VAT refund on purchases above the minimum threshold. Keep receipts and ask the boutique for a VAT refund form, savings can be meaningful on significant purchases.
- The Bicester Collection app covers all seven villages. La Vallée, Fidenza, and five others are all on the same app. Guest Services at each village can check stock across the network if you are looking for something specific.
- Account for import if buying significant quantities. UK customs allowance for goods bought abroad is £390 per person. For a family of four, that is £1,560 combined before duty applies. Know your limits.
The Honest Verdict
La Vallée Village is the most important destination for French heritage children’s fashion outside Paris itself. Fidenza Village offers access to Italian considered brands at prices that genuinely justify the detour. Neither is a day trip you regret if you go with a clear list and realistic expectations.
The savings are real. The experience is a significant step above a discount outlet. If you are travelling to France or Italy anyway, build half a day around either village and you will not leave empty-handed.
