LEGO preschool range launched globally in 1969
DUPLO is the LEGO Group's preschool building range, not a separate toy company. LEGO launched the larger bricks globally in 1969 after testing them in Sweden. Their dimensions are twice those of the standard LEGO brick, a design intended to connect with the wider building system. For a first set, think about what the child wants to build and whether a themed model or a box of loose bricks gives them more room to play. Compare the contents with bricks already at home, and follow the age marking on each set instead of assuming all LEGO products suit the same child.
