Most designer kidswear shopping ends the same way: six browser tabs, six size guides, six delivery charges. Childrensalon’s entire pitch is that it collapses all of that into one basket, and it has been refining the idea since 1952.

How we assess brands

This review is research-led: it draws on verified owner reviews, the retailer’s published policies and editorial research, not gifted product or a sponsored relationship.

Who they are and who they’re for

Childrensalon began as a single boutique in Royal Tunbridge Wells, opened by Sybil Harriman in 1952. Seven decades on it is still a family business (Sybil’s daughter Michele Harriman-Smith later ran the company as chief executive, then chairman), but the one shop has grown into a global online destination for designer childrenswear, carrying more than 240 labels by its own count.

The range runs from newborn to 16 years and the label list reads like a front row: Burberry, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi and Moncler, alongside quieter names such as Bonpoint and Tartine et Chocolat that are genuinely difficult to find under one roof anywhere else.

Three groups keep coming up in owner reviews: parents buying for a wedding, christening or party who need everything to arrive together; grandparents gifting at the premium end; and anyone who has fallen for a European label with no UK boutique of its own.

Where they’re best

Occasionwear is the obvious strength. Christening gowns, flower-girl dresses, page-boy tailoring and party dresses sit here in a depth no UK department store matches, and the pattern in reviews is that this is precisely when people use the site: one order, one delivery date, everything coordinated. If you are dressing several children for the same event, this is the practical answer.

The second strength is curation. Childrensalon sells everything on the site itself rather than hosting third-party sellers, which matters at this price level, where marketplace listings carry real grey-market and counterfeit risk. It also carries pieces exclusive to Childrensalon on some labels, so certain items simply do not exist elsewhere. For the hard-to-find European houses, it is often the only sensible UK route in.

Value

Entry pricing starts from around £25, which buys accessories and basics from the more accessible labels. Be honest about the centre of gravity, though: this is a full-price designer retailer and most baskets will sit well above that figure.

The value case is consolidation rather than discount. One checkout, one delivery (next-day is available in the UK), one returns process. Returns are free in the UK, and Childrensalon will refund or exchange within 28 days of the order arriving, which is more generous than several of the single-brand boutiques it competes with.

Its Rewards scheme adds free delivery on orders over £250, and the end-of-season sales are when the cost-per-wear maths genuinely changes on the bigger labels. If you can be patient and flexible on colour, the sale is the smart time to buy; the smock dresses and classic outerwear are the obvious targets because they hold their shape across seasons.

Where they fall short

The price point assumes a serious budget. “From £25” is technically true, but the pieces you will actually want sit far north of it, and a multi-brand basket escalates quickly. This is not the site for everyday basics; our under £50 edit covers that ground better.

Sizing is the other consistent theme in owner feedback. More than 240 labels means more than 240 sizing philosophies, and some brands run noticeably small. Check the size guide on every individual product page rather than assuming your child’s usual size, particularly with the Italian and French houses.

One smaller gripe: free delivery is a Rewards perk on orders over £250 rather than a blanket policy, so factor delivery into the cost of smaller orders.

Verdict

Childrensalon earns its billing as the default destination for designer kidswear. It is not the cheapest way to buy any single item, and it never pretends to be. What it offers is breadth, seven decades of specialist focus and a returns policy that makes premium risk-taking manageable. For occasionwear, gifting and the labels you cannot find elsewhere, it is the first tab to open. Buy in the sale where you can, check each size guide, and let the one-basket convenience do the rest.
